The Spec:

The refurb HP Workstation Z240 Tower computer is spec’d as follows: HPs full sized tower chassis with dimensions of 39.90 x 17 x 44.20 cm (HxWxD) packs in a Intel Core i7 6^th generation 3.40GHz Quad Core processor, a 512GB Solid State Drive (SSD) and 16GB RAM that can be upgraded to 64GB. Standard integrated Intel HD graphics as well as Gigabit Networking, USB 3.0, DisplayPort and DVI connectivity options. Windows 10 Professional 64bit is preinstalled so you can make the most of that maximum 64GB RAM.

The Good Bits:

This PC is all about power and performance. Its spacious chassis allows for a larger 400W PSU as standard with space for a larger one still. There is also loads of extra space for a discrete graphics card if you want to explore the world of PC gaming. You’ll also find spare space for an internal wireless card if you wanted that option as well as LAN networking. There is a decent sized 2.5” SATA SSD with Windows 10 Professional installed with yet more space for an additional drive or 2 so the Z240 could easily act as a server unit.

The Not So Good Bits:

The Z240 is a big machine and weighs not far off 10 kilos so if you’re buying you’d probably want to make sure you have space for it. There is also no optical drive installed though again there is space for 1 or 2. It could perhaps do with another 1 or 2 more up to date video connections though this can be solved by adding a graphics card.

The Design:

It’s fairly obvious, as we’ve pointed out, that this HP computer is a big bit of kit but we feel that is very much in its favour. HP has made a PC that is easy to upgrade and maintain with a slide off side panel and loads of internal space. There are also plenty of accessible ports on the front with more on the back.

Suitability:
